The effortless "cool" of this picture just makes me really happy.
So "Thrift Shop" is great and everything, but it wasn't until I heard some of Macklemore and Ryan Lewis's other songs that I realized how fantastic these guys really are. Macklemore has that amazing voice, and Ryan Lewis has a great ear for instruments and beats. They really aren't bad on the eyes. Not bad on the eyes at all. And top it off with their grungy, simple style...Baby you've got a stew going!!!!
I'm actually really loving this minimalist hip hop revival. I don't love rap often, but give me a rapper with a memorable voice and I'm sold.
5 Can't Hold Us, because it takes talent to rap this quick without sounding winded. And the piano chorus just inspires good emotions.
4.5 Because this party looks amazing.

They hail from the great city of Seattle. And really, Seattle never disappoints:
Jimi Hendrix, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Chris Cornell, Sir Mix-A-Lot. Starbucks. The Ring...
3.5 Bombom, because it's a really peaceful instrumental track that you'd never expect on a hip hop album.
OH sweet childhood nostalgia! The poster for the Ender's Game movie has been released. Fingers crossed it is not a hot mess of a movie. (Because I really want Asa Butterfield to succeed!)
I am a certifiable space nut. The place is so mysterious and dark (and full of terrors?) and fascinating. I just listened to this really interesting story on Radiolab, which is a podcast that everyone should be subscribed to, involving space and I just had to share it.
I just discovered this amazing series that puts Furby into popular album covers. Here are some of my faves, and I can't wait to see what else they come out with. Note: I added the original album for comparison.
Now if only I could find someone to parody this video with a furby. Perhaps I'll start a Kickstarter to fund it...
Just picture it! This song in a Furby voice!!! #CantHandleIt
I had the honor of attending Buku this past weekend. This was the 2nd year that they have put on this event. I was only able to jump in on Saturday's festivities but it still was AMMMAAAZZZIINNNGGGG. I saw all of the headliners: Calvin Harris, Kendrick Lamar, Passion Pit, and of course a ton of other shows that night. I was super excited I got to see Starfucker because that was who I HAD TO SEE. Oh, and Major Lazer's show was a RIOT. Ugh, can someone lend me their Dolorean so I can travel back to that night please?
So many great shows, great people and great vibes. Here are some of my highlights. I'm no professional photographer, so bear with my instagrammed iPhone jankyness.
Starfucker. So so so good.
My friend made these shirts that said "Bukrewe" on the front and "Express Yourself" on the back. Lots of handstands were done that night.
Someone let us play with their laser pen and we got to write on this guy's shirt with it. I don't know the physics behind it, but it was mind blowing. We literally drew with a laser beam and when we were done, the image remained on the guy's shirt. Too cool for school.
Here's a snapshot from Major Lazer. Yea, that's Diplo rolling around in a bubble ball. Yea. AMAZING!
Here's a 10 second video I took with my phone. As you can see, the show was packed. I don't know if you can make it out in the video, but there was a balcony that ran around the entire room that was also filled with people.
And to cap off my Buku experience, a dinosaur astronaut I found in the crowd.
This will be the first and last time I ever post anything about cats, I hate them. But I just discovered the most adorable novelty Instagram account...
So a few months back I fancied myself doing some DIY wall art projects for my room with vintage maps. Unfortunately I still haven't gotten around to any decorating, BUT I did find these AMAZING drawings of the constellations from the 17th century that I want to share with everyone. Because they are really cool.
Celestial Atlas by Ignace Gaston Pardies
I wanted to print them out really big and hang them on my wall, but they're also great as:
Wallpapers on your electronics
DIY postcards
Wrapping paper for small gifts
Anything with paper really. Just wanted to share because they're really cool.
Check out this amazing $7 compact mirror on Amazon. Perfect for any betch because the only thing betches love more than Macbooks is looking at themselves in the mirror.
Shakey Graves is this fantastic, magical, angelic, talented, perfect musician who's making waves in Austin right now. Hopefully his fame spreads to the rest of the world because with guitar playing like that he REALLY deserves it.
He's currently on tour so if he's in your city DEFINITELY check it out.

So often I'll be riding through New Orleans when I spot something utterly ridiculous. Thankfully I know have a cell phone who's camera loads fast enough for me to paparazzi shot the cray.
Which is why I decided to start a new WotS series, "mAd CiTy: This City is Full of Freaks".
Spotted at Washington Ave and Magazine St.
"I just blue myself."
Either the Blue Dog came to life or somebody let Tobias Fünke handle their dog
Spotted at Tulane and Broad (that's right. I hang out at Tulane and Broad.)
"Pharmacy & Restaurant"
Wait what? What REASON is there behind a Pharmacy & Restaurant combination!? I am so confused!
Breakfast is hands down my favorite meal of the day. I could even eat it for lunch and dinner (and I have). This machine is pretty amazing if you have an affinity for breakfast sandwiches. It's no replacement for the McGriddle, but it damn sho is fiyaaaaaaaaaa. I mean, a separate egg cooking chamber where you slide out the bottom when it's done cooking and it lands perfectly onto your sandwich? Engineering at its finest. Ok, maybe not at it's finest, but you know what I mean.
Also, if you love breakfast as much as I do, you should definitely try out this combo sometime: Waffle + Bacon + Prosciutto pan fry it!+ Cheesy Eggs + Waffle Trust me, it's delicious. I had it for dinner two weeks ago. Also, a side of butter, jam or syrup for the waffle really sends it over the edge. I think I may have to make this again soon...
Everyone could always use a pick me up on Wednesdays. It's such a BLAH day. Just stuck there in the middle of the work week. Not quite the beginning, and not that close to the weekend. Like the nursery rhyme goes, Wednesday's child is full of woe. Word. Up.
Last Wednesday I posted that amazing picture of Will Ferrell. This week I chose this photo by Max Wanger. I really admire his work and this particular piece makes me feel really :) inside.
Happy Wednesday everybody! You'll get through the week. I promise. YOU GOT THIS!
Just had to share this GQ editorial starring Jaime Lannister (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau). I'm so used to seeing him dirty and grungy in tons of armor...but this denim look is a happy alternative.
COUNTDOWN TO GAME OF THRONES SEASON 3. (It is actually going to be the BEST season because it is based on the BEST book. I can't contain my excitement)
Battery powered super compact mini car by Toyota?? Will this be the transportation of our future? Also, a potential Apple lawsuit? Probably not. I think the hyphen saved them from that. But then again, I'm no lawyer.
This is probably THE CRAZIEST Bloody Mary I've ever seen. I mean, just look at that thing! This massive beauty has got shrimp, some cheese, beef jerky, celery, sausage, a lime, asparagus, brussel sprouts, green beans, okra, a pickle, onions, tomatoes, olives, a CRAWFISH and a BACON AND CHEDDAR SLIDER! God, it's so wonderful. I get excited when I get extra spicy beans in my Blood Mary, but this BM would make me the happiest girl in the world. Next time I'm in Dallas, I'm definitely stopping byAnvil Pub and getting me one of these.
Remember that physicist who built the overly complicated machine to separate the creme from Oreo cookies? Well, looks like Nabisco's Cookie v. Creme campaign is back with a part 2 to this Oreo separator series. I personally am not a big fan of Oreos, but it is fun watching these inventors come up with these super elaborate contraptions.
So let me preface this post by saying this guy (yes, GUY) has been doing this series for like a year now. So yes, this is kind of old...but not really because he deserves WAYYYYYY more attention than he gets for it. Literal "laugh out loud, quote it in your everday conversation" comedy.
Introducing (to Word on the Sidewalk): GAYLE, a parody of intense suburban housewife alpha moms.
"Jesus Christ I'd give up all the risotto in the WORLD for 30 minutes with that slice of that pumpkin pie! I'd eat him up like a corn on the cob!"
Seriously, watch them all. Especially all of them.
If there is one thing I love in the world, it is a great juxtaposition. Photographer Jim Naughten's Hereros series is a great juxtaposition. The series looks at the Hereros tribe of Namibia, a beautiful desert country, and their unique traditional fashions.
As much as I LOATHE to admit it, I'm totally a sucker for young adult dystopian series (eg. The Hunger Games). I love the harrowing settings, sappy romance and quick pacing. That is not to say that all YA dystopian series are made equal; most of them are plain terrible and ridiculous.
Which is why I'm excited that one of my favorite guilty pleasure series is probably being made into a TV show on the CW (conveniently also the home of 50% of my favorite guilty pleasure TV shows).
So it's basically a mashup of The Bachelor, Cinderella and The Hunger Games. GUILTY PLEASURE HEAVEN.
I mean haters gonna hate, but this story literally combines so many ridiculous ideas into a masterpiece. PLEASE CW, make this TV show happen. I'm totally fine with the dystopian genre taking over if it means I get this dystopian Bachelor crossover.
We've got a new layout AND a new domain! www.wordonthesidewalk.comWe're OFFICIAL!!!! Let's travel back in time and remissness on how we got to this wonderful stage in our blogging life.
