HEAR HEAR: Zebra FUCKING Katz

There are times when I feel like the world is trying to outshine me. For those times I have "Tear the House Up." It is a song that can revive anyone from the depths of being faded. It is a song that can restore confidence to someone with teeth like Pennsatucky. It can bring Dodos back from extinction. It can stop global warming. Not really, but you get the picture.

Zebra Katz serves up so much realness that I think my whole life has been fiction. Excuse me while I receive all the life from this masterpiece. Don't even get me started on the video.

Hear Hear: NRG

This Duck Sauce video/song is hitting ALL the right notes! I love the campiness! I love the 80-ness! These guys are ridiculous and I can't get enough! Like can there be more 80s style EDM (so I can show off my sick workout video dance moves?!)

Hear Hear (Throwback Thursday Edition): ORBITAL BE-BOP

This magical one hit wonder of the 80s is giving me all the life. (You may recognize it from the Oscar worthy film, Girls Just Want to Have Fun) Seriously, just put me in an empty room with this song playing and I would burn so many calories. Such a great era.

Here are some other Synth themed songs to amp you up for the weekend:

Hear Hear: Portugal. The Man

I'm having a hipster moment because I'm PISSED I'm just discovering this band now! Portugal. The Man is like a mixture of Foster the People and the Beatles (you just can't go wrong with that!) Everyone should love this band. Seriously Amazing.

And this VIDEO. MAGIC. It's a religious experience. This song is a religious experience.

Also check out Modern Jesus.

Hear Hear: Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr.

Do you know how some songs just make you so happy when you listen to them? Like you're walking when this song comes on the headphones and you get this pep in your step? And then your head gradually bobs harder and harder. Then you just start belting out the lyrics no matter where you are?

That's what this song does.

Finally something good comes out of Detroit!!!!
(jk, love you Detroit)

Hear Hear: Time to Dance

Check out this cinematic music video in which Jake Gyllenhaal goes on a hipster killing spree. I love when celebs do music videos.

Offensive Content Warning: Violence and gore.

Hear Hear: Carlton

What happens when you mix pop rock and Frank Ocean? THIS!

Now this is what I call passionate, passionate musicians. I mean that afro-ed bass player is shutting IT DOWN. They are having so much fun with this song and I love everything about it! Really a fun take on Frank Ocean's great jam. And the band is called Carlton.

It's a Hard Knock Life For Producers

Have you heard about the latest drama in the EDM world? Will.I.Am (of Black Eyed Peas fame) blatantly stole, and later admitted to it, a song by Mat Zo and Arty for his new album. It's kind of sad that this happens often, like nobody respects DJs rights to their work. It's not unlike how photographers and graphic designers get shit on and ripped off for their work too.

At any rate...
Let's take the attention off of the negative energy, and focus on the positive. Mat Zo is an amazing and very much underrated artist. He deserves recognition for songs OTHER than the one the radio is about to brutalize. And I really loved Rebound. =

Here is a Mat Zo song that gives me life. It is perfect, ephemeral, angelic and stunning (hereby: PEAS). He deserves all the money and love this song earns him.

So many good feels.

So next time you hear Will.I.Am's "Let's Go", remember Mat Zo. Remember The Sky.

Hear Hear: Mayer Hawthorne

Designer Drug by Mayer Hawthorne

I mean, I never say no to funky beats. If I had a million dollars I would reopen Studio 54. (If you have a million dollars and want a designer to help you reopen Studio 54, holla atcha girl!)

5 Reasons Why Macklemore & Ryan Lewis Are Awesome (NOT Including Thrift Shop)

The effortless "cool" of this picture just makes me really happy.
So "Thrift Shop" is great and everything, but it wasn't until I heard some of Macklemore and Ryan Lewis's other songs that I realized how fantastic these guys really are. Macklemore has that amazing voice, and Ryan Lewis has a great ear for instruments and beats. They really aren't bad on the eyes. Not bad on the eyes at all. And top it off with their grungy, simple style...Baby you've got a stew going!!!!

I'm actually really loving this minimalist hip hop revival. I don't love rap often, but give me a rapper with a memorable voice and I'm sold.

5
Can't Hold Us, because it takes talent to rap this quick without sounding winded. And the piano chorus just inspires good emotions.

4.5
Because this party looks amazing.

4
They hail from the great city of Seattle. And really, Seattle never disappoints:
Jimi Hendrix, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Chris Cornell, Sir Mix-A-Lot. Starbucks. The Ring...

3.5
Bombom, because it's a really peaceful instrumental track that you'd never expect on a hip hop album.

Bombom by Macklemore & Ryan Lewis Feat. The Teaching on Grooveshark

3
Neon Cathedral, because who doesn't love a good neon cathedral?

Neon Cathedral Ft. Allen Stone by Macklemore & Ryan Lewis on Grooveshark

2.5
Because seriously, they are dapper as fuck.

2
Wings, because of pop culture. And because we haven't had a song about shoes since Air Force One.

Wings by Macklemore & Ryan Lewis on Grooveshark

1
Same Love, because it's just a really good song about relevant issues in society today.

Bonus
Because they prove themselves worthy in a live performance on NPR's Tiny Desk Concert series.

10/10, I'd definitely pay to see them live.

Too Long/Crescendolls/High Life

In honor of Daft Punk's upcoming album I present Too Long/Crescendolls/High Life.

Listen to it with headphones on. It sounds like music is coming from everywhere.
(I'm a little loopy on coffee, but I'm pretty sure the track just has masterful mixing/equalizer-ing...)

Amaze.
