Hear Hear (Throwback Thursday Edition): ORBITAL BE-BOP

This magical one hit wonder of the 80s is giving me all the life. (You may recognize it from the Oscar worthy film, Girls Just Want to Have Fun) Seriously, just put me in an empty room with this song playing and I would burn so many calories. Such a great era.

Here are some other Synth themed songs to amp you up for the weekend:

I am in shock and disbelief. This fine, beautiful, dapper, perfect, angelic, ephemeral, stunning man was taken away TOO SOON.

A moment of silence for Paul.

A Fast and Furious marathon is in order. So damn depressing!!! God he was beautiful.

Lent Magazine

So I just found out about Lent Magazine. No, it has nothing to do with that religious holiday where it's a sin to eat meat on Fridays. This website's got interviews, short stories, journals, art and a piece written by my girl Elizabeth Tran. Good shit. Check it out.

Beer + Planets = ❤

I love a good Instagram hashtag, as evidenced by our initiation of #snoballproject which was inspired by #popsicleproject. This new one that I found has got to be, by far, the best one I have ever seen.

Seriously, guys this is some good stuff. I've never realized how much the bird's eye view of a pint of beer really does look like an celestial body! Hat's off to the creator of this ingenious hashtag. I love beer and I love outer space. Together, it's justI justI can't evenI'm in love.

The last one is a juice planet, but it's still oh so beautiful. #beerplanets

Monica Ramos

I seriously am obsessed with her. I love all the little people and all of details that go into these illustrations.
So whimsical and absolutely wonderful. I really want a waffle now.

Check out more of her work over here!

Hear Hear: Portugal. The Man

I'm having a hipster moment because I'm PISSED I'm just discovering this band now! Portugal. The Man is like a mixture of Foster the People and the Beatles (you just can't go wrong with that!) Everyone should love this band. Seriously Amazing.

And this VIDEO. MAGIC. It's a religious experience. This song is a religious experience.

Also check out Modern Jesus.

Hear Hear: Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr.

Do you know how some songs just make you so happy when you listen to them? Like you're walking when this song comes on the headphones and you get this pep in your step? And then your head gradually bobs harder and harder. Then you just start belting out the lyrics no matter where you are?

That's what this song does.

Finally something good comes out of Detroit!!!!
(jk, love you Detroit)

Brands to Watch: Bark Decor

There are some real hidden gems buried within Etsy, all you need is a little shove in the right direction. I'm really loving the designs over at Bark Decor.

Reasons To Love It:
1. Sophisticated color palette with neutral tones to match everything.

2. Each piece is hand printed and made-in-America.

3. The artwork is absolutely stunning.

4. Reasonably priced. You can get shittier, similar stuff from the  Anthropologie/Urban Outfitters menace for about $40 more.

5. Support small businesses and artists!

So head on over. You can get shirts, bottoms, pillows and even jewelery! I'll take one of everything.

Stunning, ephemeral, angelic. It's been on my bucket list for like 5 years. One day, I will be a part of it.

Bumpin' Uglies by Jamie DeWolf

This poem by Jamie DeWolf (interesting fact: the grandson of Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard) is giving me life. It's a beautiful message wrapped up in a deliciously offensive package.

Offensive Content Warning: "Big, bad" words and sexual situations

Thank you Mr. DeWolf, now I don't feel too bad about my daily Creole Creamery ice cream cone.

You Know What Really Grinds My Gears?!: IPHONES (And a Begrudged Shopping Guide)

IPhones REALLY grind my gears. Specifically the way the iPhone has SOMEHOW become analogous with the word cell phone. All phones are NOT iPhones (thank God) and everyone doesn't own an iPhone! I could honestly write a dissertation on all the reasons I hate Apple products and iPhones, but today my grudge is against the monopoly iPhones have on the case/cover market.

Like can a sister get a beautiful phone cover for her NON-IPHONE!? There's this huge untapped market of cell phone owners who are missing out on all the great work that's being put into iPhone accessories!!!! Can someone invent a website, like Society 6, but where all of the items are phone cases. So if someone wants a specific print for their Galaxy...or Lumia OR IPHONE, they can get it in the same place?!

(Sidebar, Society 6 is a glorious website of creativity and customization that everyone should be aware of!)

ANYWAY. Here are some pretty bomb ass phone cases I'd buy IF I HAD an iPhone. (And better yet, I would buy if they'd make them for my more superior phone.)

$140 at Etsy

(Do we see a pattern of fabulous materials? A beautiful material is sometimes all you need.)

$25 at LEIF

$22 at Etsy

$25 at Fancy
But really...Ain't nobody got time for iPhones.

$35 at Society6

Okay seriously. People don't understand the struggle that is calculating discounts from the sale rack. Ain't nobody got time to figure out how much 60% off of $39.99 is. And time spent looking for the calculator app is time NOT SPENT looking for more bargains. #NECESSARY.

$5 at Perpetual Kid
Because honestly the print quality is jaw dropping. It looks so REAL.

$13 on Etsy

And these prints from Society 6  are just TO DIE FOR.

Hear Hear: All I Had

This new track by Deadmau5 is hitting all the right places. Progressive house is the best house. Now if only we could get an entire album of this....

Top 5 Josh Horowitz After Hours Interviews

If you've never heard of After Hours with Josh Horowitz, remedy that. Literally the only celebrity interviews worth watching. Here are 5 of my favorites that I watch over and over when having a bad day.

5. Empire State of Mind with Harry Potter Daniel Radcliffe
This one is so great because if you've spent any time in NYC, you can understand the questions and it's great realizing Danial Radcliffe loves the same places you visit! (Two Boots, I'm looking at you).

4. Would You Rather? with Shia LeBouf

There's just something about making Shia uncomfortable. His mannerisms are perfect.

3. Chanukuh Special with ScarJo and Matt Damon
Love seeing Matt Damon in the hot seat because he has this all-knowing, poised air about him. But he's really just a normal, awesome guy.

2. Adorable Things with Michael Shannon
IN HONOR OF MAN OF STEEL (because he shut shit down as General Zod). I absolutely ADORE this ADORABLE Michael Shannon. He's also great in Take Shelter (great movie).

1. Hey Girl with Ryan Gosling
Anyone who can make Ryan Gosling laugh like this deserves the Nobel Prize.

Hear Hear: Carlton

What happens when you mix pop rock and Frank Ocean? THIS!

Now this is what I call passionate, passionate musicians. I mean that afro-ed bass player is shutting IT DOWN. They are having so much fun with this song and I love everything about it! Really a fun take on Frank Ocean's great jam. And the band is called Carlton.

The Must Have App For Any World Traveler

Ladies and Gentlemen, the future:

Word Lens is basically a real time translator. Hold up your phone to the foreign language sign you can't understand and VOILA, translated to your native language.

I'm really tripping out because this real time, translating and converting is some really advanced technology at work!

Get it for your phone:

Lose Yourself to Soul Train

Obsessed with this song/mash up. I so wish things like this still happened.

Oh Great, Amazing Universe

First I have to set a little mood music.

Now let's just take a moment to appreciate space. Because these Cassini photographs of Saturn are absolutely MIND BLOWING. I need these blown up to about 10 feet tall and covering every wall in my room like I need air to survive.

THE SHADOWS!!! Can you imagine what it look like from the "surface" of Saturn!?!!!??!

Some days I wake up and I can't even handle how amazing space is. This is one of those days. I'm so ready for my faster than light spaceship.
